2011 National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Postgraduate Scholarships

The aim of the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships scheme is to support outstanding Australian health and medical graduates early in their career so that they can be trained to conduct research that is internationally competitive and to develop a capacity for original independent research. This is usually achieved by NHMRC funding its scholars to attain a PhD, a PhD equivalent degree or Masters degree, all of which must be by full-time research.

Application procedures

Applicants need to refer to the NHMRC application instructions prior to submitting their application. Applications can only be submitted using NHMRC’s Research Grants Management System (RGMS). The Instructions to Applicants document, provides detailed information on how to answer the questions on the RGMS application form.

University Closing Date

Wednesday 14 July 2010.

Note: MRGS has set an earlier closing date as each application need to be certified by the RAO before the NHMRC closing date of 30 July 2010.

Submission of application

Applicants are required to undertake the following steps by the University closing date of 14 July 2010:

  • Complete the Application Certification section of the application. Note: certification should only be requested when the application is complete as certification will lock down the application and prevent further editing.
  • Provide a hard copy of the application (including all attachments) to MRGS.
  • Sign the University Certification Form and organise for the proposed supervisor and head of department to sign the form.
  • Attach the completed University Certification Form to the hard-copy of the application. The University Certification form must include original signatures.

IMPORTANT: Referee reports need to be submitted directly to NHMRC by the referees (via email to scholarships@nhmrc.gov.au) by the NHMRC closing date of 30 July. Applicants are responsible for ensuring the referee reports are submitted by the closing date. Refer to page 20 of the Scholarship Advice and Instructions to Applicants. As outlined on page 20 do not use the upload facility to attach the reports to RGMS.
