Registration for Nedbank and DALRO scholarships open

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) in association with the Business and Arts South Africa corporate members - the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO) and Nedbank Arts Affinity - is pleased to announce that registrations are open for the ACT Performing Arts Scholarships 2010.

The programme is aimed at learners in their final year of secondary education who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in the performing arts at an accredited tertiary institution. Last year Steven Paul Norman from Cape Town was the recipient of the inaugural ACT | DALRO Performing Arts Scholarship to the value of R75 000. Norman proved his abilities as the triple threat master in the disciplines of singing, dancing and acting at the Finals which were held at Gold Reef City’s Globe Theatre in September last year. Norman is now a drama student at the University of Cape Town.

“We are proud to announce that Nedbank will be sponsoring an additional scholarship to the value of R75 000,” says Nomalanga Nkosi, Programmes Manager of ACT. “That means 2010 Scholarships for two students, one male and one female, will be awarded. To qualify, learners are invited to participate in a national competition where they will be assessed on their singing, dancing and acting potential,” she explains.

Regional rounds will be held in three major cities; namely Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg during the month of May with subsequent rounds being held at the South African National Schools Festival in Grahamstown in July.

Rules of the competition, guidelines for preparation and the relevant registration forms should be downloaded from www.act.org.za/resources_downloads.htm. The selected finalists must be available for the final round which will take place in Johannesburg during September 2010. ACT will cover the costs of travel and accommodation for finalists. The closing date for registrations is Wednesday 31 March 2010.

Creative Art Scholarship

Available to students entering Years 8 to 11 and is open to any secondary senior student (enrolled, registered and non-registered at TSS). It is strongly encouraged for outside students to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student (or students) on the basis of a portfolio, scholastic achievement and the candidate’s personal statement. The value of the Creative Art Scholarship varies between 10% to 40% remission of tuition fees for one year only. The recipient will be reviewed during the year in terms of performance and contributions to the Art program. Recipients are invited to apply, along with other interested students for the Creative Art Scholarship for the following year. Details of portfolio requirements and selection criteria are available in the information pack that accompanies the Scholarship Application form. If not a current student, an Application for Admission needs to be returned with the Creative Arts Scholarship application.
Deadline for applications is 26 March, 2010.

General Year 7 Boarding Scholarships

A limited number of General Boarding Scholarships are available for Year 7 boarding students commencing at TSS in 2011. 40% off tuition fees for Year 7 ONLY.

Register your interest following the normal enrolment procedures, including a covering letter outlining your interest in the offer and forward to the Admissions Office.
